Murals, History, and the Cultural Story of Lake Chapala
A new video is now available on Living La Vida Lakeside, featuring a condensed walking tour through the heart of Ajijic, Jalisco. Filmed during a three-hour guided walk, this 30-minute video explores the murals, stories, and cultural influences that have shaped Ajijic and the Lake Chapala region over time.
Rather than focusing on a checklist of sights, this walking tour looks at how history, migration, art, and community institutions intersect on the streets of Ajijic. Along the way, we explore public murals, Indigenous and colonial roots, the role of 20th-century immigrants, and the lasting impact of organizations such as the Lake Chapala Society and figures like Neill James.
The video also includes brief reflections from tour participants, offering personal perspectives on what stood out to them and how the experience deepened their understanding of Ajijic.
You can watch the full video now on YouTube and walk along with us through Ajijic’s cultural story.
